Biodiversity

Spring 2013

Our plan includes nurturing the existing plant life and the natural habitat. With support from the Capital Growth Fund we are planting fruit and nut trees, lavender and rosemary bushes and sunflowers near the apiary in the Cemetery. These will provide food for the Friends and also support insect, small mammal and bird life.  If you are interested in gardening in the Cemetery, please contact the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Friends aim to conserve and improve the biodiversity of the Cemetery, its natural plant, animal and bird life and we are erecting habitat boxes for birds, bats and insects and installing beehives.

Our biodiversity plan encompasses nurturing the existing plant life and the natural habitat. We are studying the important native grasses and Roy Vickery, Chair of the South London Botanical Institute, has identified over 200 plant species that flourish in the Cemetery. By encouraging these plants we also support insect, small mammal and bird life.
